七夕

Over at the dinner table a while ago..

Mum : Today's Valentine's day on the lunar calendar
Me : *Munchin away* Oh ?
Mum : On the 7th day of the 7th month
Me : *Bo chup* mmm..
Mum : Which explains why it rains today.. happens every time of the year

..struck my curiosity, which I went on to pursue inquiring about the story and the significance of it. I mean, to hear my mum speak somethin rationale and of interest only happens once in a blue moon.. well, sorta

And so the *my mum's* story goes..

A cowherd (牛郎) meets this pretty weaving fairy (織女) and they fell in love and got married in secrecy. However, its against the heavenly rules to engage in romance and news of their engagement was soon unraveled to the Emperor of heaven.

During the court marshall, 織女 was condemned to lifetime imprisonment in DB and had to return to her saikang of weaving. She was also separated from her husband by this long heavenly river.

The lovers pleaded for mercy and the other deities took pity upon them. As such, only on this day of the year were they granted off for rendezvous , upon this bridge formed by magpies across the river.

..

Me : So why the rain ?
Mum : Cos they cried non stop upon meetup, and everyone else felt sad for them

Me : 牛郎 - Gigolo ? 妓女 - Prostitute ?
Mum : *shake head and sighs*

Staring at the Sun

Exercise cut. Last comment of the Comd went somethin like..

"waste of time"

Not that I had the privilege of hearing the exact personal sentiments, but words from these WOSEs spread like fire on dry hay.

Relieved and relaxed now that my series of unfortunate events - weekend duty + exercise - have drawn to a close. I feel accomplished too ! Having survived the blazing sunny weather and went to the troopers rescue in the middle of the night.. with water re-sub. .. An almost opposite feeling compared to that of the previous post.

Perhaps living the rollercoaster life with its ups and downs like a frequency wave beats a mundane , stale , repetitive kind.
Without challenging the mental and physical test of endurance for the upcoming Army Half Marathon, won't come the post run sense of pride and victory.

Without achieving ur shape of desire, won't truely satisfy your vanity.

No Pain , No Gain

Blog needed a title , so I took it off the song title by U2, of relevance to the weather outfield.

Summer stretching on the grass... summer dresses pass
In the shade of a willow tree creeps a crawling over me
Over me and over you stuck together with God's glue
It's going to get stickier too...
It's been a long hot summer
let's go undercover
Don't try too hard to think... don't think at all
I'm not the only one starin' at the sun
Afraid of what you'd find if you took a look inside
Not just deaf and dumb i'm staring at the sun
Not the only one who's happy to go blind

Wasted Weeds

Blame no one but my very own ignorance and carelessness

Everyone makes mistakes
Only the wise learn from their mistake

Just another day in camp

Wake up, rushed to camp in my bike.

8km run, followed by another grandfather story by my CSM ..

Apparently he wasn't too happy seeing soldiers walking outside of camp instead of jogging, for his rationale states that walking outside of camp tarnishes the image of our unit, and ultimately affecting that of the SAF.

True to a certain extend ; perhaps the civilians may see these people as unfit and stereotyping the Army as a "slack" place.

But does IMAGE alone justify the reason for confining these unfit personnel to run within camp boundaries ?

Does these commanders know how sian and demoralizing it is to go 6 rounds around camp, where others get to enjoy the morning breeze and scenery outside of camp ?

Why won't the civilians see these walking parties as people who'r putting an effort but just couldn't complete the entire jogging distance ? No society is perfect without flaws.

The aim of these run is to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Will confining these fellas to run in camp encourage them to get fitter or instead, create a backfire ?

An update on the 3 recce fellas posted to DB after having a word with their commander.

The BOS(brigade orderly sgt) was on his last duty that night before posting out to 2 SIR. He went to check on every guard personnel and wrote a letter of complaint directly to the HQ commanders (big fucks in short).

If he had practiced the chain of command and go through my csm or their oc, the case can be easily covered. Throw a few extras to the offenders at the most. Now that they're in Db, chances of studying in uni is in jeopardy.

This set me thinkin..

Would you prefer to die as an ordinary person whom few people knew, or die as Adolf Hitler ?
