Sunday Times headlined a topic speculating a increasing number of Singaporean men choosing foreign brides over locals. To a certain extent, the title may look a tad disturbing labeling "foreign brides as HOT and local brides are NOT"..

Fact of the matter is, a large proportion of these men who'd prefer "Demure" brides (the ones who stay home, cook, serve, abide by the husband's rules) are pretty much losers to begin with. He is either intellectually deficient and/or aesthetically disgusting, lags behind the society in terms of monetary and social status, and is unable to follow up to the local women's growing needs. A local partner would probably be more capable and this hurts his ego. Thus, he resorts to seek out foreign maids..I mean, wifes from third world countries with minimal maintenance.

On the contrary, the other probable reason for Rojak marriage is due to globalization. The garment is luring in foreigners and locals are migrating to seek a different life. Publications and medias have greatly exposed and influenced us a great deal in terms of foreign cultures and lifestyles. As a result, SGeans, like most developed countries, have a greater choice and knowledge as to who they want as the ideal marriage partner.

And why not ? The only problem I could think of.. for now at least, is the Cultural difference- the way he/she is brought up and exposure to different lifestyles, is likely to result in different views and opinions towards their relationship. Lotsa compromise may be required for both parties..

Back to the topic..I believe IMHO, the partner you ultimately marry is not merely one who fulfills your needs; But someone whom u choose to spend the rest of your life with.
